Premium Construction Company in Brighton & Sussex | Orange Property, Brighton & Hove

Orange Property Group wasn’t born out of a grand plan to “start a construction company.” It was born out of frustration.

Not with building, we’ve always loved building. But with the industry norms that too many people accept as standard: contractors who don’t answer the phone, who don’t turn up when they say they will, who pass jobs down a chain of subcontractors until nobody is accountable, and who treat clients like an inconvenience once the contract is signed. We’re a construction company Brighton doing things differently.

Why Reliability Is Rare in the Construction Industry

We saw it repeatedly while developing property. We remember standing on site and realising there wasn’t a single person there who actually worked for the company we’d hired. Everything was subcontracted, and then subcontracted again. When things went wrong, there was no ownership, just excuses.

And we thought: this doesn’t have to be the way.

Accountability Over Endless Subcontracting Chains

So Orange Property Group began with a simple belief: Premium isn’t marble. To us, premium contractor Brighton, equals reliability. As a professional building contractor in Sussex, we feel confident that we are the most reliable construction company in Brighton.

When people hear “premium contractor” they often picture expensive finishes, luxury materials, and high-end design. That’s not what we mean.

What “Premium Contractor” Really Means

To Orange, premium means that we answer the phone and communicate clearly. We turn up on time and do what we said we’d do. And we care about how the experience feels for the client, not just how it looks at the end.

That’s the baseline. It should be standard, but in construction it often isn’t. That’s why we exist.

Communication, Programme and Professional Delivery

Orange is not one thing. It’s a group of services built around one consistent standard of delivery, and includes Construction, Property Maintenance and Passive Fire Protection.

Protecting the Client Experience, Not Just the Finish

Each branch of the company serves a different client type with different pressures.

A client investing in a major home refurbishment is making emotional decisions, often under stress, and needs clarity, reassurance and trust.

On the Property Maintenance side, a block management company needs speed, compliance, documentation and dependable delivery month after month.

And a fire safety client needs competence, evidence and absolute seriousness because there’s no margin for error.

Different needs. Same standard, and that standard is the core value we build everything around:

Care. Built in.

Construction, Property Services & Passive Fire Protection. One Standard

Our work sits across three core areas;

Construction
Property Services & Maintenance, which includes facilities and block maintenance, aids and adaptations and letting property maintenance.
Passive Fire Protection, covering fire door installation and maintenance, fire cladding, fire partitioning and stopping.

High-End Residential Refurbishment in Brighton & Sussex

A client investing in a major home refurbishment is trusting us with their home, their finances and often their long-term plans. That demands professionalism and structure.

Property Maintenance & Compliance for Block Managers and Housing Clients

Block managers, letting agents, local authorities and housing associations need clarity, speed and compliance, not chaos. We want your experience of property maintenance company Brighton to be calm and professional.

Certified Passive Fire Protection & Fire Door Compliance

Fire safety clients need competence, documentation and absolute seriousness. There is no margin for error when it comes to compliance.

Systems, Structure and Risk Management in Construction

Systems create freedom. Standards create trust.

We hate inefficiency. Always have. If something is unclear, chaotic, dependent on one person’s memory, or “just the way we’ve always done it,” it becomes a risk, not just to profit, but to delivery, reputation and people’s wellbeing.

So we’ve built Orange around systemisation and delegation. Not because we’re obsessed with process for process’ sake, but because systems protect the client experience. They also protect quality of work and delivery, cash flow, the team and the business as it scales.

Why Systemisation Protects Quality and Cash Flow

When a business relies on one person (usually the founder) to hold everything together, it becomes fragile. In the construction industry, fragility is dangerous,  not just for the business, but for the fabric of what’s being built.

One difficult contract. One bad dispute. One delayed payment chain. One unexpected issue on site… and suddenly the whole operation is exposed.

Reducing Risk Through Operational Control

So as Orange grows, we grow with structure.

Part of our long-term strategy is to build Orange like a proper group, with clarity between divisions, strong operational control and risk spread intelligently.

That includes building the right internal separation as we scale (so that one area doesn’t sink the rest), and building stable, recurring income lines that smooth the peaks and troughs.

Building a Construction Company That Scales Without Compromising Standards

Investing in People, Apprenticeships and Culture

At Orange, we’re building the kind of company we wish existed more widely in this industry; a company where people can grow, training is constant and standards matter. We want the work to be respected, and people to feel part of something.

That’s why apprenticeships and training matter so much to us.

The goal isn’t just to “fill vacancies.” The goal is to build capability and loyalty over time through real investment in people, rather than empty promises.

Because the best work comes from teams who feel valued and supported.

Sustainable Growth, Acquisitions and Long-Term Stability

We have ambitions to acquire, not huge corporates, or growth for the sake of it, but strong local businesses that have built something valuable but don’t have the structure or systems to scale.

We’re selective. Acquisitions don’t work if you’re just buying turnover. You’re buying people, culture, reputation, clients and ways of working. If those don’t align, it’s not an opportunity, but a liability.

Cash flow in construction is rarely clean. So we think carefully about stability, recurring income, bundled services and protecting the integrity of the group as we grow.

Care. Built In.

Orange Property Group is built on one big idea:

You shouldn’t have to accept chaos as part of construction.

The industry might have normalised poor communication and low accountability, but we don’t buy into that.

We’re building something different, grown with intention. We are a contractor that delivers professionally, with a team that feels valued, maintaining our standards as we grow.

Raising Standards in the Brighton & Sussex Construction Industry

That’s the philosophy.

And it’s why we say:

Care. Built in.

John Beasley MCIOB

Construction Director

In a career spanning over four decades, Orange Property’s award-winning, MCIOB Chartered Construction Manager John Beasley has managed Grade 1 and 2 listed heritage properties, ecclesiastical buildings, new build developments, bridges, hospitals, leisure parks and more. At 16, John began a plasterer’s apprenticeship at J. Cheesmur & Sons, adding City & Guilds brickwork qualifications soon after, and learning the niche arts of flintwork and fibrous plastering. At 22 he took complete control of his first build project, carrying out site management, contract management and estimating, extending his skill set to cover industrial and commercial refurbs, and infrastructure. A period at Allen & Joy - where his reputation bought in 90% of contracts - was followed by 8 years at Rylands, heading large industrial estate and commercial projects. 2008 saw John set up Beasley Construction, covering domestic, ecclesiastical, commercial and industrial sites. Yet success to the tune of a £4million turnover took him away from what he loved most - the building site. In 2015 John handed the keys to the business to his son Luke and joined Valley Builders, where his work earned accolades including four Sussex Heritage Trust Awards and a Civic Trust Award, and then to Godfrey Martin Limited, who entrusted him to oversee works on London’s iconic Nell Gwynn House, Sloane Avenue. Fast forward to 2023 and John completed the CIOB Chartered Membership Programme and his Professional Review, gaining the coveted MCIOB status. It was here Orange Property Group’s MD Tom Lever reached out, asking John to help him scale the exponentially growing company to the next level according to Orange Property’s core values of care, quality, and professionalism. Together, John and Tom are now committed to growing an award-winning, uncompromising, standard-setting legacy, building something beautiful that will stand the test of time.

Dr Tom Lever

Founder & Managing Director

Orange Property Group MD Tom Lever is a man on a mission, to change the worlds of construction and property for the better. A natural entrepreneur, Tom has been in the world of business since the age of 12, managing events and running teams by 15 and at 18, successfully selling a company. Across his late teens and 20s, his life reads like a film script: a humbling trip to hospitals in Kerala; funding his way through med school; recovering from an auto-immune condition; setting up To-Jo, a successful experiential marketing company for the automobile industry; surviving a car crash (over a cliff) that broke almost every bone in his body; enduring three years of physical therapy and reconstructive surgeries on his pelvis, legs, spine, even his eyes; selling To-Jo; and finally, after 10 years, emerging from med school with his GP qualifications. Using funds from the sale of To-Jo Tom moved into property development and was swiftly disappointed with the attitudes he found there. Deciding he could - and would - do better, he established Orange Property Group with a clear focus on Care, both for clients and for staff. His reputation quickly grew. Architects, landlords, letting agents, property maintenance companies and private and commercial customers were drawn to the high standards of respect and integrity he and his team set. Orange Property is now one of the most successful, sought-after property companies in the South East, generating consistent year-on-year growth. Tom has completed dozens of development projects in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors, his highly skilled workforce including award-winning MCIOB chartered builders allowing them to work on heritage, listed buildings as well as new build sites. With a Property Services division on call 24/7 for new and repeat clients, including his own properties, Tom quite literally puts his money where his mouth is. In an industry where staff retention is low and the suicide rate is highest, Tom’s workforce receive free counselling, private GP appointments, physio, training and development. Tom works closely with charities Sussex Nightstop and the Construction Youth Trust. The majority of his staff donate money to charity, which he matches pound for pound. And on top of all this, Tom still finds time in his week for his GP work, with a keen interest in helping those with chronic pain access healthier lifestyles and wellness models for a much better quality of life. Whatever he does, wherever he turns his attention, one thing is clear: Care is very much at the heart.
